A hundred years ago our church began to lay the foundation for our beautiful sanctuary. The congregation was growing and needed more space than the "Little Red Church" offered. The setting of the cornerstone was led by the oldest and youngest members of the church, Alfred L. Hammett and Bruce Currie, with a silver trowel of mortar! The photo (below, left) shows the Cornerstone Celebration, led by Pastor Lewis G. Leary, on Children's Day, June 10, 1917.
We will continue this grand tradition on June 11, 2017 at 11:15 am when we celebrate the setting of a dedicated vault for the Huguenot Memorial Church Time Capsule. During a year-long series of celebrations, activities and gatherings of church members of all ages, we will collect articles, photographs, drawings and periodicals to be placed in the time capsule.
In September 2018, this Time Capsule will be set in the vault, sealed for the next 100 years, only to be opened by youngest and oldest members in 2117! Mark your calendars.
